{"id":5189,"date":"2020-09-04T10:45:43","date_gmt":"2020-09-04T08:45:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/izmf.sbg.ac.at\/?page_id=4205"},"modified":"2024-02-06T11:08:12","modified_gmt":"2024-02-06T10:08:12","slug":"about-us","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/geschichte-studium.at\/izmf\/en\/about-us\/","title":{"rendered":"About us"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<span lang=\"DE\">The <strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">IZMF<\/span><\/strong> is the <b>centre for<strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\"> interdisciplinary research and teaching on the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Period<\/span><\/strong><\/b> at the University of Salzburg. It has been designed as a cross-faculty institution with the task to interlink all activities in research and teaching dealing with the Middle Ages to achieve the best possible synergy and innovation effects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"DE\" style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">Similar institutions <\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"DE\">have been established in the <strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">US, Great Britain, France and Germany <\/span><\/strong>in the past decades. The core aim of all these medieval centres is the endeavour to work on the Middle Ages as a complex subject of research with all its historical and cultural-historical phenomena through the cooperation of different medievistic disciplines in research and teaching.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>On November 1, 2012, the University of Salzburg started an institutional partnership with the\u00a0<strong>I<\/strong><strong>nstitute for Medieval and Early Modern Material Culture<\/strong> <strong>(<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imareal.sbg.ac.at\/\"><strong>IMAREAL<\/strong><\/a><strong>) in Krems, headed by university<\/strong>. The IZMF also cooperates with <strong>related institutions<\/strong> and scientific societies at home and abroad. In 2016, the <strong>\u201cMiddle High German Conceptual Database\u201d (<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mhdbdb.sbg.ac.at\/\"><strong>MHDBDB<\/strong><\/a><strong>)<\/strong> was integrated into the IZMF and, together with the projects to explore sources digitally at the IMAREAL, represents a core field of the Digital Humanities at the University of Salzburg. Specific <a href=\"https:\/\/izmf-salzburg.at\/en\/topic\/\"><strong>research priorities<\/strong><\/a> focus on special aspects of interdisciplinary cooperation whose results are incorporated into the courses offered.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/izmf-salzburg.at\/en\/course-overview\/\"><strong>interlinked range of courses<\/strong><\/a> of the medievistic sub-disciplines is intended to give students a differentiated overall picture of this era in history. The IZMF coordinates the modules of the add-on and in-depth course of <a href=\"https:\/\/izmf-salzburg.at\/en\/study-supplement\/\"><strong>Interdisciplinary Studies of the Middle Ages and the Eearly Modern Period with focus on Digital Humanities<\/strong><\/a>, which can be completed during the bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s studies. Every winter term a <a href=\"https:\/\/izmf-salzburg.at\/en\/lecture-series\/\"><strong>lecture series<\/strong><\/a> with an interdisciplinary topic is offered.<\/p>\n<p>The IZMF has committed itself to trigger a multidimensional discussion of our (power) political and cultural past, which is an indispensable prerequisite for an understanding of the background and the context in which our present is shaped.
